Faith Formation 2020: Designing the Future of Faith Formation, the long-awaited book based on the Faith Formation 2020 Initiative is now available, and you can download the first chapter for free. Published by Lifelong Faith Associates, the book expands on the thirteen trends and four scenarios previously identified as influencing congregational faith formation in the coming decade. Chapters include “Envisioning the Future of Faith Formation 2020,” “Designing the Shape of Faith Formation 2020,” “Leading Faith Formation 2020,” and “Bringing the Faith Formation 2020 Scenarios to Life.” (FYI, my colleague Rev. Sue Sinnamon and I will be leading a workshop on bringing the scenarios to life at GA in Charlotte this June. I’ll publish full details on it when they become available.) What’s especially interesting is the focus author John Roberto has put on Eight Driving Forces Affecting the Future of Faith Formation. These “critical uncertainties” more or less replace the thirteen trends the FF2020 Initiative previously identified. To find out what they are, go ahead and download a PDF of the first chapter of the book here.
